Castle Douglas is located about 18 miles from Dumfries. It’s an 18th century market town that is also a designated ‘Food Town’ where it’s always possible to buy local produce. The town has no less than 50 independent food producers, so it’s well worth a trip to stock up on quality items; it’s also possible to buy many of the local products at the main convenience store.
Beside Castle Douglas is Carlingwark Loch, dotted with islands, which is great for boating, learning to sail and enjoying a picnic. There is also the Stewartry Agricultural Show which is an annual event that takes place close to the town each summer.
