The town rests on the banks of the beautiful River Beauly, a popular spot for salmon fishing, which leads into the Beauly Firth and then into the stunning Moray Firth before flowing out into the North Sea. The town itself is home to a wide choice of independent craft shops, welcoming pubs and friendly restaurants.

Keen walkers and cyclists can take the 26-mile route around Beauly Firth, and the town also marks the start – and end – of the breathtaking North Coast 500 route. Heading east, the vibrant city of Inverness (15 miles) offers a fantastic range of great places to eat and drink as well as a choice of major art galleries and delightful boutiques. The city has numerous attractions including Inverness Castle, St Andrew’s Cathedral, the Botanic Gardens, the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Eden Court Theatre and Cinema and the Hall of Names.

Beauly is also within easy reach of the Black Isle to the north (13 miles), or you can head south to the majestic and mysterious Loch Ness (14 miles). The picturesque village of Drumnadrochit (15.5 miles) is the home of the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition, exploring the history and legends of the loch’s famous resident. Also nearby are Urquhart Castle (17.5 miles), the Glen Ord Distillery (2.5 miles), Rogie Falls (10.5 miles) and the RSPB’s Tollie Red Kites Nature Reserve (10 miles).

Compact, cosy, comfortable. Ideal base for visiting all areas designated by us as good birdwatching sites. Secure without being isolated. Friendliness of the owners. A fire had been lit for us on arrival( it was a cold wet day and we had driven up from Norfolk).

We would agree with previous reviews of this cottage and rate as one of the best we have stayed in. Clean, well equipped and the patio area at the back is a sun trap if you get good weather, which we did in September. Saw Red Kites and Buzzards almost everyday plus a wide variety of other birds using the bird feeder. It's super quiet, except for thRead moree call of the Red Kites and occasional call from one of the young bullocks. The log fire is very easy to use and soon warms up the whole house. Hide
