With superb country and sea views, and perfectly situated in a secluded and tranquil location, this cosy and welcoming 19th century detached cottage is an ideal Highland retreat.

This beautiful detached cottage stands in a fairly isolated situation with wonderful views of the sea, countryside and distant mountains. This is an ideal destination for basking in the peace and quiet, or watching the birds and other wildlife in this magical, tranquil part of the world. You can take in the spectacular scenery of this remote and beautiful area which is north west of the charming town of Lochinver, or you can visit the Inverpolly Nature Reserve. A 20 minute walk leads you down to the sandy beach of Culkein. The popular town of Ullapool is 45 miles away and offers ferry links to the Isle of Lewis and the Isle of Harris.

On entering this wonderfully secluded property, which has been tastefully and imaginatively converted from a 19th century school house, you will find yourself in the cosy and inviting lounge. With comfy seating, TV, sofa bed and a traditional wood burner, this is an ideal space to snuggle up at the end of a fantastic day exploring this beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands. You will also find a charming kitchen/diner, with an ideally situated dining area. You will find the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need during your stay including electric oven, fridge, freezer and microwave. Exploring this delightful property further, you will find two cosy and comfortable bedrooms. There’s a double bedroom and a twin room; please note that bed linen is not provided therefore you will need to bring your own. There is also a bathroom which is complete with bath and WC.

Heading outside, you can relax, sit back and unwind and enjoy the fantastic views from the pretty garden area. Ample off-road parking beside the cottage. Please note the property drive is shared access with the adjacent crofting land.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Had a great week cottage was lovely and as described remote but lovely scenery We arrived to find there was not much in the way of fuel logs etc for the log burner but we have left the cottage well stocked for the next tenants

We were looking for privacy and comfort amid the awesome situation of Assynt; the Old School House provided everything we wished for. The location was near Lochinver and there were also several excellent cafes offering a great choice of refreshments and crafts very close by. The view across to Culkein Bay to where the turquoise water lapped on the Read morebeach was superb. Excellent holiday cottage. Hide

Superb location, tidy and comfortable cottage with everything you need for a self catering break. Great views and walks from the cottage without the need to even get in the car. Wildlife abundant, weather was good and even the midgdes behaved themselves ! Overall, a superb experience.

The cottage name is Braighe, no mention of 19th century schoolhouse anywhere but on this website, there are various other schoolhouse rentals in the area. Many sheep & cows freely roaming, beautiful view of the sea from lounge, many books, but if you appreciate decent literature I'd say bring your own. Similarly for bread, I found it difficult to bRead moreuy ingredients to make my own. Mass produced foods available in Lochinver, 9 miles, butcher's there have nice pies & sausage, best to eat out. The cottage was just what we were looking for everything that we would need within and so homely, it was also nice and remote, private and the scenery was to die for and great for the dogs, the scenery was amazing and the local beaches were brilliant especially for the dogs and fishing a great holiday loved every minute and would recommend this to Read moreanyone looking for the same. Excellent value for money. Glad electricity now included; it was 6 to 12 de grees C (in June!) and we would not have wanted to feed a meter to keep warm. The cottage is set in its own grounds, and with lovely views. We were comfortable, warm and cosy and liked the old-world-decor. There was excellent Sky-TV freeview, and plenty of box-sets in case Read moreof rain. No Wi-Fi, but I got a phone signal. If you are looking for a remote get-away to unwind this is the place for you!
