This charming country cottage tucked away in the garden of a traditional farmhouse in the magnificent Scottish Highlands is an ideal romantic retreat. Situated at the northern end of the UK’s largest national park, the Cairngorms, this property is in the ‘Forest Village’ of Nethy Bridge; so called because of its close proximity to the ancient Abernethy Forest, home to many rare and unusual varieties and species of flora and fauna. Guests also have a range of activities on offer to them, whatever the season; with walking and cycling on one of the many forest trails or around a nearby loch, winter sports in the mountains and golf at one of the area’s earliest 9-hole courses, to name but a few, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The delightful village of Aviemore, the outdoor centre of the Cairngorms, is only 11 miles away.

Set amongst 2 acres of grounds on the edge of the forest, guests will love the tranquillity surrounding this quaint cottage. Stepping inside, the door from the garden leads straight into the open-plan living area, which is snug and cosy with a wood burner at its centre. The kitchen is amply equipped to allow you to cook a romantic meal for two. The king-size bedroom (can be made up as a twin on request) is well-presented with an en-suite bathroom. Four steps outside lead down to the utility room in the cellar which is ideal for wet weather gear.

Outside, guests are invited to enjoy the grounds, including its BBQ, summer house and romantic seating area. There is also a seating area to the front of the cottage, where you can enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening dram of whisky.

Nethy Bridge is in an ideal location to explore all corners of the National Park. As well as the plethora of outdoor activities on offer, the area has plenty more to discover. It is close to the 90-mile long scenic route 'The Snow Roads' which takes you on a tour of some of the most spectacular views and villages in the Cairngorms from Grantown-on-Spey, a pretty, traditional town (6 miles), to Blairgowrie further south. One of Scotland's four long-distance footpaths, The Speyside Way, also passes through the village. The area of Speyside and Abernethy is a 'wildlife hotspot', recognised by the BBC who have filmed recent series of Winterwatch and Autumnwatch from there. For those of you wanting to get festive, visit the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre (15 miles) where you can take day trips into the hills and get up close to the herd. Or you could visit Loch Garten Nature Reserve and Osprey Centre to see spectacular creatures of a different kind. Loch Eilein (13.5 miles), hidden amongst a forest, is also a picturesque place for a walk with its 13thcentury castle ruins. For something a little more relaxing, hop aboard the Strathspey Steam Railway at Aviemore for a traditional journey through the stunning landscape.
