Looking down over the harbour in the pretty fishing village of St Monan’s, this second-floor apartment makes the perfect coastal bolthole for a couple looking to escape from day-to-day stresses.

As you enter the living room, throw open the windows and take a seat in the fantastic hanging chair. Listen to the waves lapping and the seagulls squawking, and watch the boats coming in and out of the quay. You’ll feel normal life melt away in a flash. The open-plan living space with exposed beams has a modern kitchen area to the front end with electric oven and a gas hob, plus a fridge/freezer and microwave. The breakfast bar in the centre is perfect for morning coffees and pastries with a view, and at the back of the room is a cosy sitting area with a corner sofa that is crying out to be curled up on with a film or a good book. Those staying for longer – or in the wetter winter months when the sea crashes on the harbour walls and the wind whistles around the eaves, will be glad of the utility room with a washing machine, and the modern bathroom with a large bath and shower attachment. And when the sea-air has worked its magic and the eyes begin to droop, the cute double bedroom with an iron bedstead is just the job.

The apartment looks directly over the quaint working harbour in the centre of St Monan's, which has a handful of local shops and cafes and plenty of activity for a spot of people-watching. Take a stroll along the coast path to St Monan's Windmill, around 1 mile away – and if you fancy having a look inside make sure you ask in the post office for the key before you go. For a longer walk, carry on to Anstruther, 3 miles from the house, which has a bigger selection of pubs and restaurants, including a very popular fish and chip shop. There's also a regular bus service from St Monan's that runs into the evenings which is useful for an evening out, or for the return trip after sampling too many local delights. Browse the interesting exhibits at the Scottish Fisheries Museum, or hop on a ferry to the Isle of May across the Firth of Forth to see the friendly seals and characterful puffin colonies. Walk along the coast path in the opposite direction from the apartment to Elie, 3 miles away, and visit Elie Ness lighthouse and Lady Janet Anstruther's Tower on the headland before enjoying a paddle in the pretty sandy bay. Elie is also home to one of Fife's oldest and prettiest links golf courses.

We enjoyed our stay and would go again. Recommend a leaflet on table for Ardross Farm Shop. Almost all you would need to shop locally.

Ideal location on harbour. Fabulous views from window. Nice to walk about harbour in evening and morning. Water and heating very efficient. Did not need heating except for couple of days and within hour place warmed up. Very good bath and shower.

Had a fantastic week at Fishermans loft. The flat is clean and comfortable with everything we needed, but the best feature had to be the view! Fantastic! We spent hours watching the harbour and sea. The location is perfection itself, you could spend hours watching the tide go in and out. Very well stocked with everything you could think of and some things you couldn't. Ideal for couples.

Beautiful Views from living room across the Firth of Forth. Accommodation very clean and best equipped self catering accommodation we have stayed at for a very long time The accommodation felt a lot bigger than the pictures do it justice and very bright and airy. Would highly recommend accommodation and Smokehouse Restaurant opposite the property.

The flat was spotlessly clean and comfortable and in a great location with a good view overlooking the harbour. However, a small word of warning the access stairs are quite steep and could be difficult for someone with mobility issues. Also the bedroom was quite tight. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay and would happily book again.

Lovely location. Beautiful views from the window. Watched the boats coming and going and quiet a few liners passed by. Did the coastal walk to the next village. Great base for going further afield like St Andrew's or Leven. Second time of staying at Fishermans Loft. Loved both times.

The best asset to this property was its location. The photos do give a representation of the apartment but unfortunately the finishing details are somewhat lacking. It wasnt a cottage! We found it very basic, compared to other properties we have been to. A few things needed replacing. I.e. kettle, toaster, teapot . We have never stayed in a place that didnt leave a welcome pack. Even caravans do it.

This apartment has a lovely view across the harbour towards Bass Rock on the other side of the Firth. The details for the apartment should emphasise the TWO steep staircases to get up to the loft, and that there is a locked door between them. This was awkward when bring up the suitcases. There is an excellent Michelin Guide restaurant in the villagRead moree (Craig Millar) and there are many lovely walks straight out of the door. We did find a charging point too. Hide
