The surrounding Portree is the capital of the popular Isle of Skye and you can easily while away a few days in this well-established town. It's still a popular fishing location and you can rest assured that there are plenty of quality seafood restaurants on offer here. Children will love fishing from the end of the pier (200 metres) and you can purchase the freshest fish to take home and cook. And, if the weather isn't on your side, enjoy a trip to the local cinema (1.5 miles).

Be sure to explore the island by foot, with tons of remarkable walks, hiking and biking routes available locally. Many head to the island to walk the Old Man of Storr (7 miles), a route with incredible sea views. For more challenging routes, embark on a trip up the world-famous Black Cuillin mountain range, accessible approximately 24 miles away. This area boasts an impressive 12 Munros ready for you to bag.

For a more laid-back day out, you can visit the Isle of Skye's local golf club just 13.5 miles away. Or perhaps you'd prefer a day exploring the area's rich and exciting history. Head to Dunvegan Castle and explore its grounds and gardens (21.5 miles), before pressing on to the glistening turquoise waters of Coral Beach (25 miles).

Great location with parking and easy access. A large house with loads of potential. It needs work on the main ensuite (no shower, or door). Owners do not provide a starter pack, which I would expect for a minimum weekly rental, so bring your own toilet rolls (2 half rolls provided), dishwashing tablets (only 2 provided) and no laundry powder. WindiRead moreng staircase not suitable for mobility impaired. Online description says no dogs (one reason we booked) the house instruction book says dogs are ok. Hide
