One of our Fife cottages, the magnificent Hillside Retreat, recently hosted trials riding legend Danny MacAskill, who came to both stay and play, as he also filmed a stunt here for his newest video.
He is best-known for the series of jaw-dropping stunt videos he has created in conjunction with Red Bull, which have gone viral and had millions of views from around the world. Many of the videos were filmed in Scotland, and showcase not only Danny’s skills but also the many scenic backdrops the country has to offer.
When Danny came to stay at Hillside Retreat, he filmed one of his most difficult stunts yet: jumping onto a rolling hay bale and riding it down the hill before a well-timed dismount. You can see the stunt, executed to perfection, in his newest riding video, Wee Day Out:
Getting the stunt right wasn’t quite so simple, however, and it took multiple practices to achieve the results, which you can see in the Behind the Scenes clip below. This video also shows off even more of the beautiful countryside surrounding the Hillside Retreat, which is set on a working farm with its own equestrian cross country course.
After the filming, Danny returned to Hillside Retreat a few months later to open a new horse jump created to commemorate the occasion, named the Danny MacAskill hay bale cross country fence. Designed by British Eventing course builder David Wilson, the jump joins the 125 others that make up the property’s highly-acclaimed cross-country course. If you’re not quite brave enough to attempt the fence on horseback, guests are also welcome to walk around the farm to see it, while also enjoying the far-reaching views on offer out over the surrounding countryside.
Once Danny had filmed a few more stunts, he finally got to put his feet up at the Relaxing Rural Retreat, which involved sinking into the private hot tub and a nice cup of tea in the lounge.
The Hillside Retreat is a truly stunning luxury property, set in miles of peaceful countryside near the village of Lindores in Fife. It’s perfect not only for horse riding enthusiasts but anyone looking to experience the very best of this picturesque corner of Scotland. Sleeping up to six guests, two dogs are also welcome, and you’re sure to enjoy a comfortable stay with en-suite bedrooms, a hi-spec kitchen and a relaxing lounge boasting superb views.
There is plenty to keep everyone occupied as well, as there are several attractions nearby and walks to be enjoyed from the doorstep. Many activities are also offered on site including horse riding, shooting and stalking, photography and clay pigeon shooting.
