There are eight working distilleries on Islay making it the perfect destination if you want to taste a dram or two of the famous Scotch single malt whisky including Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Bowmore. All of the distilleries offer tours and talks on how the whiskey is made and information on how the Islay peat gives its whiskies that unique and smoky flavour.
There are a number of small towns and villages across the island where you will find our holiday cottages making the perfect cosy home from home. Other interesting things to see upon the island include the relics of ancient times that you will see dotted all across Islay, from castle ruins to ancient stone circles and Bronze Age settlements. The RSPB reserve of Loch Gruinart lies on the northern coast of Islay and offers guided walks around the island, a wonderful way to see the roosting geese and rutting red deer.
