Portree is the main town and cultural hub upon the Isle of Skye. The pretty harbour attracts many visitors to watch fishing boats coming ashore with their catch along with pleasure boats taking locals and holidaymakers out for day trips to see the beautiful island from the sea and a chance to glimpse at the bountiful marine wildlife frolicking in the waters.
On land, there is plenty to see and do in Portree, with some lovely shops, cafes, and restaurants, and the renowned Aros Centre putting on regular film screenings and theatre performances.
The Mercat Cross war memorial lying just behind the harbour points to the little streets where you’ll find Portree’s shops and iconic row of brightly coloured houses along the south west side. Our holiday cottages in Portree make for an ideal base to explore the rest of the island, or the thriving harbour which is the centre of life in this coastal town.
